Plot Twist?
Maren finds out from Lee's sister Kayla that their dad, who abused them and drank too much, hurt them and then disappeared. The police thought that Lee was the one behind the attack but realized that he wasn't. Lee explains that his dad was a cannibal, too. He says that he ate his dad and he feels terrible about it.
Ending:
When Lee and Maren kill Sully, Lee gets hurt, and he wants Maren to eat him "bones and all." The movie ends with Maren agreeing and doing the task no matter how much her heart is breaking and tearing up inside he didn't want her to starve or have to kill someone else to feed so he's giving his absolute ALL to her!
Notes - Thoughts
Well then, can't say I was expecting that. They really took a simple but deep meaningful approach even with the vibe going on. The characters are called "eaters" and while they can't help their instincts to kill people, they have moral compasses and wish that they could live regular lives. That sets them apart from the way that cannibals are depicted in most films.Supposed to be disgusted away yet towards the end we are realed in to how deep their love lies within each other! Hence the title "bones and all." It's a different kind of film that is a character study of two young adults who are traumatized by their base instincts and struggling to understand why they have to be this way. It's definitely heartbreaking to watch Lee and Maren have conversations about being eaters. The entire movie honestly was heartbreaking to witness the trauma, actions, steps, thoughts they have to indure on their own. Really makes you take a second to pause and just truly think about it all.
