The Assent

Length: 89 minutes Genres: horror ~ thriller

Summary: When a babysitter spends a night with Mason, she is convinced that he may be posessed; she appeals to Father Lambert, a priest who is experienced in performing exorcisms.

Plot Twist?

When she sees what is going on, she threatens to alert the authorities. Joel begs her and she asks him to agree to take her help. Joel does and that's when the truth is revealed. The therapist is actually a demon.

Ending:

When Joel takes the therapist’s help he unwittingly agreed to become possessed. The priests were not there for Mason but for Joel. During the exorcisms, they were calling out to him to come to their side, but Joel was waylaid by the therapist. In the end, the son has also grown up and is in danger of being possessed.

Notes - Thoughts

It is sad that Joel was beyond help. He was tricked into giving his assent and lost his soul. I wondered if perhaps the priest should have told him beforehand that he was the one in danger. Or was the whole process about Joel giving his assent wholeheartedly to them instead, to be saved. Really focused on the special effects and making sure we got scared throughout!

"The mind can be so dangerous. We believe in what we see and hear. That is the truth of this world for us. Then suddenly the mind collapses when experiencing trauma and causes a mental disorder."
