Summary
Annabelle Comes Home, directed by Gary Dauberman, is the third installment in the Annabelle series and a direct spin-off from The Conjuring films. The story picks up after the Warrens have secured the Annabelle doll in their artifact room, hoping to contain its evil. However, when their daughter Judy’s babysitter and friends inadvertently unleash the doll’s malevolent spirit, chaos ensues as the Warrens race to protect their family from the unleashed horrors.
Plot Twist (Spoiler Alert)
The evil attached to Annabelle not only haunts the doll but also unleashes several other spirits trapped in the Warrens’ artifact room. The main antagonist spirit manipulates events to possess Judy, forcing the family and friends to confront the darkness head-on. The twist reveals that the true horror extends beyond the doll itself to the cursed objects the Warrens have collected all throughout the room, some have to be given attention to first be awoken though. So who really has horror inside them? Just the artifacts?
Connection to the Real Warrens’ Investigations
The film is inspired by the Warrens’ real-life claim of having a locked artifact room filled with cursed objects collected during their investigations, including the Annabelle doll.
While the supernatural events and many characters are fictionalized for dramatic effect, the concept of an artifact room housing dangerous items is based on Warrens’ accounts.
The film expands the Conjuring universe’s mythology by showing how the Warrens try to contain evil, emphasizing their ongoing fight against supernatural forces.
Rating - Loved
A fun, scary, and somewhat lighter addition to the Annabelle series, perfect for fans interested in the wider Conjuring lore. The jumpscares are still there, lot going on and to follow throughout so don't have dull moment. Might even catch yourself yelling at the screen - don't touch that!!
Thoughts
Annabelle Comes Home offers a fresh perspective by shifting the focus to the Warrens’ daughter and the dangers lurking within the artifact room. While it leans more into traditional jump-scare horror, it enriches the franchise’s mythology and delivers solid entertainment. It’s a great watch for those wanting to see the ongoing legacy of Annabelle and the Warrens’ battle with dark forces.
